Blog 11: Holiday Project Update

1.  It is important to consistently work on your senior project, whether it is break or we are in school.  What did you do over the break with your senior project?

  • Yes it is important to consistently work on my senior project no matter the circumstances. Over break we primarily spent the time getting things ready for Christmas.

  • 2.  What was the most important thing you learned from what you did, and why?  What was the source of what you learned?
    • The most important thing that I learned was that you are not always working just to help yourself but to help others as well. I learned this because since I mentor at a catholic radio/TV station there were plenty of people donating different things like food and clothing so that we can take them to Mexico for the people in need.
    3.  If you were going to do a 10 question interview on questions related to answers for your EQ, who would you talk to and why?

  • I would talk to one of the guys that works at the station because he also works on different projects outside of work.

    Blog 10: EQ

    1. I reviewed the rule of three for writing an EQ.

    2. Review the following EQs and
    • Tell us if each meets the rule of three.
    • Tell why they do or don't.
    A. What is the most important factor in healthy weight loss?
    • This essential question follows the rule of three because it is not a straight forward question that you can answer with a simple yes and no response. You are also able to fully understand the question without being confused.
    B. What is most important to securing a conviction in a criminal investigation?
    • This question also follows the rule of three because they are asking something that can have many answers and it also allows you to argue different points to the question. This question is also very specific in what they are asking.
    C. What is most important in creating a hairstyle that best satisfies a customer?
    • This question does not follow the rule of three. I think if they where to specify on one hairstyle rather than having many factors contributing it would be framed better. You are able to argue points because everyone thinks differently. The question can be answered in many ways which creates a broad area rather than being specific.
    D. How can an anesthesiologist best treat chronic pain?
    • This question as well as the previous do not follow the rule of three. It does allow for more research to occur since it is a pretty broad topic. I don't really think you can take a stance on this because if you where to do research you would find more facts rather than opinions. On the other hand the wording does make sense.
    3. Based on your review of the rule of 3 and your experience with assessing four EQs, please write another draft EQ for your senior project. The senior team will be meeting with students shortly for EQ revision and approval; you are expected to bring your research notebook to that meeting with your EQ draft written inside in pencil.
    • When trying to convey emotion, how can camera shots affect the perception of the audience?

Blog 8 - Research and Working EQ

    1.  What is your working EQ?
    • When working in the field of television production how can camera techniques influence the viewer?

    2.  What is a possible answer to your working EQ?
    • Camera techniques can influence the viewers point of view for a certain character.
    3.  What is the most important source you have used that has helped you come up with an answer to your working EQ?
    • The most important source that I have used as of now is an article by Mindy Peterman called  "The Art of TV Editing: A Conversation with Nancy Forner.
    4.  Who is your mentor, or where are you doing mentorship, and how does what you are doing relate to your working EQ?
    • My mentors name is Edgar and he does the television programming. The place that he works at is a small television/radio station. What I'm doing relates to my working EQ because they allow me to work the cameras during a production as well as let me help out with sets.

Blog 5: Mentorship and Research Reflection

    1. Mentorship question: Describe your experience in how you found your mentorship?  If you haven't found one yet, describe your experience so far in the search of a mentor.
    • It wasn't really hard to find my mentor since I had already known him. So all I did was ask him if he could be my mentor and he said yes. The harder part was having the TV station approve of me being there, either than that I would say my search for a mentor was not that complicated.
    2. Research question: What has been your most important article you have read so far and why?
    • The most important article I have read so far would be my first one. It gave me an idea of what TV was like when it was developing, not only that but it showed different techniques that where used before to get the images running as oppose to what we have currently which is more advanced.
