Extra Blog: May

So senior presentations are finally done! woohoo! We are graduating! So excited. As for may I didn't do so much of mentorship just a couple of hours. The rest of May I spent working on finalizing my presentation as well as my activity. This month overall has been really busy and hectic due to the fact that we were all presenting, but its all done now which is nice.

Today I will speak a little bit on my overall experience with this senior project. Besides all the work that needed to get done, senior project was really fun. I definitely feel more confident presenting now than I already did. The fact that I can go up there and present for an hour is pretty great. Overall it is a fun experience just getting to work and learn on a topic that really interest you. If I had the opportunity to do it again I probably wouldn't. It was fun but its not something I would like to redo.

What are you most proud of in your block presentation and/or your senior project? Why?

• I was really proud of the way that my actual PowerPoint came out. I felt that it looked very professional and clean. I also really liked the way my activity turned out.

• I was really able to gain a lot of experience on my topic because of my mentor.  

(4) (What didn't work) If you had a time machine, what would you have done differently to improve your senior project if you could go back in time?

• If I could go back in time I would turn things in on time that I didn't. As for my presentation I would speak slower at the end because I sped up then.

(5) Finding Value

How has the senior project been helpful to you in your future endeavors?   Be specific and use examples.

•  This senior project has helped me in many ways, one being that I grew a lot in being able to present by myself in front of others. Yes I still get nervous but that's normal. This is going to help me in college a lot.

Interpretive  

•    What is the most important thing you gained from this experience? Why?
• One of the most important things I was able to gain from this experience was communication skills. Communicating played a big role throughout this project because if we did not communicate well then the show would not run smoothly especially if it where to be live. Another thing I learned which went hand in hand with communication was being able to work well with a team. 
    

Applied 

•  How has what you’ve done helped you to answer your EQ?  Please explain.
• The experience that I have had has helped me answer my essential question in many ways. When I had chosen camera shots and angles as my first answer I was able to actually put it to the test at my mentorship and see how different camera shots and angles affect viewer emotions. Same goes for lighting I was able to see how at my mentorship they lit different shows diffrently.

 

Blog 21: Exit Interview

1.) What is your essential question, and what are your answers?  What is your best answer and why?
 
Essential Question:

• What is the most important aspect of television production in order to influence viewer emotion?

Answers:

• Camera Shots/angles
• Lighting
• Sound/music

Best Answer:

• My best answer would have to be my third one which is sound. I chose this as my best answer because it is something so universal that a majority of us are able to relate to it. When watching many of our favorite TV shows there is always that one scene that is very scary or vice versa very sad and if it wasn't for the music that is playing in the background we would probably have a very different reaction to that specific scene.  

2.) What process did you take to arrive at this answer?

• I was able to get to this answer by simply researching as well as speaking to my mentor not only that but by seeing how I personally react to different scenes depending on the music or sound that is occurring in the background. When I was researching I was able to find many articles that described why sound and music went hand in hand with emotion. 

3.) What problems did you face?  How did you resolve them?

 

Problems:

• Overall I did not face many problems with my senior project. My mentor was always very helpful in answering questions for me as well as the other people that work where I do my mentorship. One problem that I did face was that my research started becoming a little bit repetitive.

Resolving:

• In order to resolve the fact that my research kept getting a bit repetitive I spoke to my mentor and he was able to give me different suggestions to look up. As oppose to looking up articles or getting things out of books he recommended listening to podcast. 

 

4.) What are the two most significant sources you used to answer your essential question and why?

• One of my biggest sources was my mentor. The reason I chose my mentor as one of my sources was because he was really able to guide me and show me the ropes of what it is like to work in TV production and for that I am thankful.
• Another one of my great sources was part of a journal written by Gavin Shafron. This journal entry was really helpful in piecing together my last answer. He was really able to explain why music and emotion went hand in hand.

Extra Blog April

April has slowly came to an end and that means that senior presentations are just around the corner! For the month of April I have primarily been working with my mentor on simple task. Most of the month of   April I have just been helping him with small things like making copies or just by simply editing a video for the show. If I'm not editing I am primarily pulling images from the internet so that they can be shown during the show. Overall this month has been pretty calm, but this upcoming month will be pretty hectic and once May is over graduation is just around the corner yay!

(d) Explain what you completed.   

For my independent component two I spent thirty hours evaluating television shows. This consisted of me watching four to five episodes of a television show and seeing what the production team did in order to create emotion. What I was also looking for was whether or not the show had a certain style that was showed evident throughout the couple of episodes.

INTERPRETIVE

For my work as I mentioned previously, I watched four to five episodes of a couple of shows and evaluated them. As for evaluation I would see how each show tries to create emotion, I also was trying to see what the common goal of the plot was. This component was also very helpful in the fact that I was able to really play close attention and look at everything in detail as oppose to for enjoyment. My mentor had always mentioned this to me beforehand as well, he would say that when watching a show try to look at everything that is occurring in a scene because each thing plays a significant role and us there for a reason. One of the things he would have me do as well is watch shows to look at detail not for the fun of it which is what we usually do. This is why I chose to do this for my independent component because it  allows you to see the different things that are occurring in a scene as oppose to just watching it as a whole.

This component played a really significant part in answering my essential question. When I was watching the different TV shows I was able to see the different ways that each TV show portrayed emotion. This would usually depend on the plot of the show. When watching all of

Extra Blog March

Wow cannot believe that we are already going into April! Graduation is just around the corner and I could not be more excited. With that being said senior project presentations are just a month away as well. For the month of March I spent a good amount of my time at mentor ship helping my mentor with a play that he was directing. It actually just occurred this past weekend. I was not able to attend due to work but from what I heard it was a phenomenal play. I was in charge of doing the pre-production steps of the play. I primarily went over the script and had to make different sheets for every scene of where the character was going to stand and where they were going to end.
